Off Highway 32, Chico, CA

There’s this 964-acre property just off Highway 32, sitting right next to Upper Bidwell Park. We’re working on a long-term plan to take better care of it — and eventually open parts of it up to the public.

What we’re doing

This is a land stewardship project first. The property needs active management — fuel reduction to lower fire risk, habitat restoration, and sustainable land practices. We’re working with the Butte County Resource Conservation District on environmental review and fuels management.

Beyond that, we’re looking at education opportunities and, yes, public access. That includes trails for hiking and biking, but trails are just one piece. The bigger picture is conservation: protecting this land while making it something the community can actually use and learn from.

More partners are coming on board as the project develops.

Why it matters to us

After the Camp Fire, everyone around here understands what’s at stake with land management. This property borders one of the biggest municipal parks in the country — taking care of it isn’t optional. And if we can do that while creating more space for people to get outside? That’s the goal.
