Collier’s Hardware was a downtown Chico institution for decades. When the store closed and the building owners were looking for a buyer, we got involved. The building dates back to 1871, and we think it deserves another chapter.
The plan
The upstairs becomes a flexible performance space — a place for events, performances, screenings, and generally whatever the community wants to do with it. The ground floor gets activated with retail to bring more energy to that corner of downtown. We’re working with local partners to figure out the best way to meet community needs.
Why we’re doing this
Old buildings have stories, and this one has 150+ years of them. We’d rather see it full of life than sitting empty. Plus, downtown Chico could use another spot where people want to hang out, catch a show, grab something from a shop, and just… be in their city.
